Welcome Week 2009

Fun-filled Welcome Week 2009
As the new school year approaches at American University, the SPA Leadership Program gets ready to welcome in the Class of 2013 and its returning leaders with a fun-filled Welcome Week.
The line-up of events for the freshmen includes dessert in Dupont Circle, a scavenger hunt with their TAs, and plenty of occasions to interact with the rest of their class all before courses begin. During the week, the new class will also meet the older Leadership students in age-old traditions like exploring the monuments at night. At the end of the week, the new students will join older students and decades of Leadership alumni to enjoy student-crafted BBQ and watching the comedic “Capitol Steps” in the Amphitheater.
As if Welcome Week isn’t fun enough, the freshmen will be going on a retreat to Harper’s Ferry the first weekend after classes start, and all of Leadership is invited to join them that Sunday for an afternoon of river tubing and relaxing. Welcome Week done Leadership style promises to be the perfect way to enjoy the end of summer and kick off a great school year.

Monday Evening 8/17
Class of 2013 meets their TAs and Professor in an informal outing for Dessert at Dupont Circle
Wednesday 8/19
8:00 pm all current Leadership students are invited to an Ice Cream Social in SIS lounge to welcome the Class of 2013. (The new class will have just completed a Scavenger Hunt exploring AU’s campus)
Friday 8/21
8:00 pm all Leadership students are invited to meet at MGC steps to explore the Monuments at night
Sunday 8/23
2:00 pm All Leadership and Alumni invited to BBQ at the Leonard Picnic Area
7:00 pm All Leadership and Alumni invited to see the Capitol Steps in the Amphitheater (Tradition!)
Friday 8/28- Sunday 8/30
Class of 2013 Retreat at Harper’s Ferry
Sunday 8/30
10:45 am Departure for older Leadership to join the first-year students at Harpers Ferry for white water and flat water river tubing
