COURT-SUPERVISED TREATMENT ALTERNATIVES TO INCARCERATION FOR DRUG-DEPENDENT OFFENDERS.
The Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD), Secretariat for Multidimensional Security of the Organization of the American States (OAS) and the School of Public Affairs of American University, have been preparing a series of publications addressing the international experience with developing and implementing Court-Supervised Treatment Alternatives to Incarceration for Drug-Dependent Offenders. The first publication in the series, Establishing Drug Treatment Courts: Strategies, Experiences and Preliminary Outcomes was presented at the Drugs Summit: European, Latin American and Caribbean Mayors and Cities, on April 21 -23, 2010 in Lugo, Spain, held under the Spanish Presidency of the European Union of 2010. A subsequent workshop with discussion papers on the topic was conducted at the OAS in Washington D.C. November 3-5, 2010. A follow up publication, Court-Supervised Treatment Alternatives to Incarceration for Drug-Dependent Offenders, which will draw on contributors from a number of countries, is presently being prepared.
